As promised from yesterdays blog, here are some more home buying issues to consider.  If you didn�t read yesterdays blog check it out to see the complete list of home buying issues to consider.

 

Basement? Finished basement or unfinished?  Consider in this how much you will use possible basement space- will it be merely a place to store extra bins or a place where you will be a lot because it�s where the washer and dryer are located.

 

Garage? Attached or detached? One or two car garage?  Consider that if it�s dethatched does it have a covered walkway to the house, especially if the home is in a place where it rains a lot.

 

Extra parking spaces? Are there places for friends a family (maybe you don�t want extra parking J) to park when they come over?  Consider how wide the streets are.  Some narrow streets don�t allow for cars parked on the street. 

 

Eat-in kitchen?  An important thing to consider if you like to have a lot of gatherings or family meals in the kitchen together. 

 

Formal dining room?  If you enjoy entertaining and having large groups over this might be something that is a priority to you.  If you don�t think it�s something you would use more than once or twice a year consider possible other places in the house you may be able to set up a make-shift dining room table for those occasional gatherings.

Family room? In newer homes is it popular to have an open floor plan with one big great room instead of a family room and living room. 

 

Fireplace?  Wood burning or gas?  This question of wood burning stoves may be especially important if your city is making ordinances that you are not allowed to burn on bad air quality days or the laws may be so strict that you are unable to use a wood burning stove unless it is the homes only source of heat.

 

Laundry room? Will a washer and dryer in the garage or basement do or do you find yourself doing a lot of laundry (which may be the case if you have several children)? Also, if the washer and dryer are in the garage or basement think about how hot and or cold the climate may be (you don�t want to be miserable doing your laundry in a smoldering garage).

 

Hardwood floors vs laminate vs tile vs carpet?  Think about the cost involved in changing out the flooring if it is worn or if you will want to change it.

 

Room sizes? Think practical- will my California king bed fit into this master bedroom?  Think about what you will be using the spaces for.

 

Interior decor?  Is there an excess of wallpaper or brightly colored walls which are fairly easy and inexpensive to change.  Or are there more permanent things such as curved archways, knotty pine on the walls/ceiling, etc?
