Thinking about buying a home in Chico?  If you are familiar with the area or not, here are some more good things to consider when house hunting.  Check yesterdays blog for more things to consider.

3. Type of Housing:
Do you see yourself living in a condo, a duplex or a single family home?  Maybe you don't have a preference, but if you do make sure to let your Realtor know what you are looking for.  Make sure to consider any extra fees that housing such as condos has.  Also, larger housing developments, such as California Park have annual HOA dues, that aren't super pricey but it all adds up!

4. Time Frame:
Make sure to start your house hunt by figuring out how much time you have to find a house.  Maybe you already live in Chico and just want to move within town.  In this case, you very well might not have a time frame.  If you are needing to move to Chico for work and only have a short time to find a house, rather than have the pressure of having to find a house quickly, consider possibly renting an apartment on a month to month basis in order to find a home that really suits your needs and wants.  Buyers who already own a home need to also consider if they need to sell their home first before they buy their second home (in order to have the money for a down payment on the second house).  All of these are just good things to be aware of!

5. House Age, Syle, Condition:
Are you picky about the age of a house you want to purchase?  Some buyers prefer buying newer homes, because they typically have smaller lots (less yard maintenance) and have fewer large repairs (such as a new roof or air conditioning system).  Other buyers actually prefer older homes for the lot size, established neighborhoods and mature landscaping.  Make sure you know what you want.  Also, figure out if the style of the house is important to you.  Do you want a craftsman style house, a bungalow, a Victorian house, or just a house house.  Yet another thing to consider if the condition of the home you want to buy.  Do you want to buy a house that is move in ready?  Or, are you willing to do a lot of work or remodeling in order to get the house the way you want it?
